The series WortWelten (Word Worlds) offers authors from around the world a platform to “speak out" and engage in lively discussions.
Since last year, Susanne Stemmler, Head of Literature and Humanities at the Haus der Kulturen der Welt has been searching for new, exciting and groundbreaking literary texts – from novels to philosophical essays, from Nobel laureates to new talents. The new series opened with the Pakistani writer Mohammed Hanif, who was honored last November with the Corine International Book Prize 2009. Theorists and intellectuals discussed the "Critique of Arab Reason" by Mohammed Al-Jabri. Later in the year, Algerian author Malek Alloula created a literary and culinary feast in the garden and there was a reading by Peruvian-American author Daniel Alarcón and his translator Friederike Meltendorf, both winners of the International Literary Award 2009 – Haus der Kulturen der Welt.
