Atmosphere

The Anthropocene Project. An Encyclopedia

The air that we breathe without thinking… Necessary for life in the biological and in the social sense. In the Anthropocene, nature and culture, biology and the social combine to form a whole. The world appears as a huge air conditioning system manipulated by humankind, with a view of CO2 levels and pollutants in the air, earth and water not always for the best. If the atmosphere changes, our life conditions change as well. And while politics—always a matter of conditions, necessities, and realities—is the art of the atmospherically possible, the Anthropocene Project invites us to expand the concept of politics and to get to know the possibilities of art, science, and critique as regulatory aids for a new politics of the atmosphere.
