For the program “The Bridge,” the Brazilian singer-songwriter and guitarist Lenine, recipient of five Grammys over a 30-year career, joined forces with bandleader Martin Fondse, who with his orchestra won the 2012 Dutch Edison Award.

Two bridges – the Maurício de Nassau Bridge in Recife and its counterpart on the Amstel in Amsterdam – along with the song “A Ponte” inspired this collaboration by the Brazilian singer-songwriter, guitarist, arranger and producer Lenine and the Dutch orchestra leader Martin Fondse. Together, the two span the ocean. “A Ponte” is just one of over 500 titles from the catalogue of Lenine, who was born in Recife in 1959. He has written songs for the Brazilian musical elite, including Gilberto Gil, Milton Nascimento, Maria Bethânia and Maria Rita. Lenine himself has long since joined their ranks, with five Grammys over a career of 30-plus years. He has now teamed up with Martin Fondse, an all-around musical talent, arranger and bandleader who, with his orchestra, won the 2012 Dutch Edison Award. Wassermusik presents the Berlin premiere of “The Bridge.”
