The Anthropocene Project. An Encyclopedia

It is certainly a very anthropocentric illusion that everything in the Anthropocene turns around humanity. Let us take everyday survival in our latitudes. Interwoven into the balance of our checking accounts, supermarket shelves, and cleaning agents, mass media and cute little household robots, we surround the earth’s surface with everything that’s part of that. The name for our current civilization, a neo-environment of technology. Like a virus that contains a program for self-maintenance, this sphere operates in a large-scale way, quasi-autonomous and shaping the surroundings for our human survival. With and through us. So that we are no longer ourselves, but parts of something bigger. Too philosophical? Then recall your computer’s last hard drive crash or your calls to your mobile service provider’s service center. Just a suggestion.
