The Bielefelder Laborschule is a state experimental school of North-Rhine Westphalia. It was founded in 1974 under the direction of educator Hartmut von Hentig and is dedicated to developing new forms of teaching and learning and co-existence in schools. The guiding educational principles of the Laborschule include the school as a space of learning and experience, living with differences, the school as a small-scale society and gradation, i.e. the school as a bridge between the life of a small child in the family and the life of an adult in a very complex society. The results of its practical and theoretical educational development work have been documented in a number of publications.
