What is a game? How can complex issues that concern young people be made tangible in games? And what happens when young people become game developers themselves? The urban dialogues association is transforming the school structure of the Evangelische Schule Berlin Zentrum into a playing field on the topic of co-determination. Under the guidance of communication designer Axel Watzke, game designers and other experts, students develop a game concept that is tested and further developed in a 24-hour game jam. Then they create game mechanics, game design and game instructions. Game jams are hackathons, intensive learning and research arrangements that enable individual, emotional as well as cognitive and experience-based learning. Participatory, solution-oriented and transparent working methods are tested through playful approaches.

The Evangelische Schule Berlin Zentrum is based on the guiding principles of Agenda 21. On this basis its builds its “House of Learning” and continuously develops its school program. It cooperates closely with the district and numerous extracurricular partners in and outside Berlin. With 12th grade students and teacher Florian Sievert
