European and world premières of German and international films in the Berlinale festival section Generation: Although the section is traditionally home to cineastes under 18, the approximately 60 films are not just for children and teenagers, but for people of all generations.

On 11 February, the two competitions Generation Kplus and Generation 14plus will be formally opened in the auditorium. A week later the Glass Bears for the best short and long films in Generation 14plus will be awarded. The award ceremony for Generation Kplus, with two Glass Bears and the prizes awarded by the Deutsches Kinderhilfswerk, will be held on 19 February. The decision on who takes away the bears will by taken by a jury of eleven children aged between 11 and 14 and a jury of seven teenagers aged between 14 and 17. The two prizes awarded by the Deutsches Kinderhilfswerk will be decided by a jury of international experts.
