His music comes from the South – in contrast to northern hemisphere associations, a cool region that has more in common with Uruguay and Argentina than with the rest of Brazil. A region where gauchos and horses live in the great outdoors. But composer, instrumentalist, and singer Vitor Ramil has nothing to do with “Gauchismo”. He plays broken chords on his steel guitar, melodiously underlain by the bass guitar and sometimes supported by Indian or African instruments. This music reflects what Ramil calls the “aesthetics of coldness”: depth and clarity, lightness, but also melancholy.
