Matthias Spielkamp is a journalist, founding member, and editor of iRights.info (Grimme Online Award). Since 2012 he has been a managing partner of the think tank iRights.Lab. He has held numerous teaching posts at German universities and directed projects on Internet governance and online journalism in Asia, Africa, the Near East, eastern and south-eastern Europe.

As an authorized expert Spielkamp has been invited to several Bundestag hearings. He is currently a fellow of the Stiftung Mercator and visiting scholar at the Alexander von Humboldt Institute for Internet and Society (HIIG). He is active on a voluntary basis as a member of the executive board of Reporters Without Borders and as a member of the advisory committee of the Whistleblower network.
