Body echoes from District 6: the performance reflects on Cape Town’s musical heritage using recordings from British record companies from 1910 to 1930. Sound impressions from South African popular music of the time meet the choreography of the deaf dancer Andile Vellem — a narrative of sound about archives, power, movement, information, and memory. Specially composed and assembled for Pop 16, the piece is a collaboration between dancer Andile Vellum, composer and dramaturg Dom Coyote, sound artist Nathaniel Mann and sound curator and anthropologist Noel Lobley.
