In the belly of a slave ship – screenplay by Patrick Chamoiseau

This drama reconstructs the more than four months long passage in the belly of a slave ship from Senegal to Martinique. A voice off screen imagines the thoughts of one of the abducted, who will die on the trip. One of millions of people murdered in centuries of transatlantic human trafficking. The haunting and powerful prose of the writer Patrick Chamoiseau tries to make the inconceivable comprehensible and to create a memorial: “When we possess the bones of the deceased, they never leave us completely.”
