In the global history of slavery movements, imperialism and serfdom, counter-movements were always present. For their newly commissioned performance, Nicholas Grafia and Mikołaj Sobczak draw from these movements in countries like Jamaica, the Philippines, UK and Poland, to negotiate social codes, linguistic practices and rituals used within peasant and slave communities. This way establishing a counterculture and safe space, many individuals in those communities seeked to be as free and independent as possible from the dominance and restrictions imposed by slave masters and governing bodies. Using spoken word delivery, choreography and disguise, the performers make relations to similar hierarchical structures; still present in the way many countries are politically lead both locally, as well as in the way they operate on an international level.
