When it comes to climate change, many systems of control designed around national borders break down: internationally restrictive trade processes and systems of enforcement have little or no power in the face of desertification, mass flooding, forced migration and other social and environmental disasters.


12.00 hrs Part 1 (North): Discussion with Claudia Kemfert (Head of the department Energy, Transportation, Environment at the German Institute of Economic Research and Professor of Energy Economics at Humboldt University of Berlin) und Lorenz Petersen (Head of the GTZ Climate Protection programme; GTZ is a federal German enterprise for sustainable development with worldwide operations), chaired by Harald Welzer (social psychologist, director of the Center for Interdisciplinary Memory Research at the Institute for Advanced Studies in Humanities in Essen).


15.00 hrs Part 2 (South): Discussion with Atteqa Malik (digital artist and media theorist from Pakistan), Binyawanga Wainaina (author, journalist and blogger from Kenia) und Yasir Husain (philosopher and civil right activist from Pakistan), chaired by Rob van Kranenburg.
