Fatoumata Diawara is a Malian artist, actress, dancer, singer-songwriter, and activist with a powerful voice and universal sound. She sings songs full of melodies in the Bámbara language, incorporating the music of her ancestors into her own sound. Wassoulou sounds and traditional instruments such as the kora and ngoni are combined in a blend of blues, Afrobeat, funk, jazz, and soul. For Diawara, music is a form of hope and is the instrument that unites the world. Through her work she delivers messages of peace and conscience, and also engages with campaigns fighting against inequality and injustice.
