Akinori Nakatani
Akinori Nakatani (1943–2023) was a ceramist sculptor whose work investigated materiality and spirituality through geometric and organic forms, and invented ideograms and motifs. Trained as a ceramist in Kyoto and Koishihara, Nakatani taught ceramics in El Salvador and traveled extensively through Central and South America before settling in Brazil in 1974, where he built his noborigama kiln and began producing his authorial work. Since then, his pieces have been exhibited in galleries and museums in Brazil, France, Italy, Japan, Puerto Rico, Mexico, Colombia, and Venezuela.
