Albert Artwell (1942, Catadupa, St. James, Jamaica–2018, St. James, Jamaica) was a self-taught artist who started painting in his early twenties, first creating painted biblical quotes and later paintings that explore his interpretation of biblical themes. His work has been shown in exhibitions including Re-imagination: The Works of Albert Artwell, National Gallery West, Montego Bay, 2023; Intuitive III, National Gallery of Jamaica, 2006; Fifteen Intuitives, National Gallery of Jamaica, 1987; Jamaican Intuitives, Commonwealth Institute, London, 1986; Jamaican Art 1922–82 staged at several North American venues by the Smithsonian Institution’s Traveling Exhibition Service; The Intuitive Eye, National Gallery of Jamaica, 1979.
