Alibay Bapanov

Alibay Bapanov is a textile artist whose work deals with the themes of nomadism, intertwining ancient Kazakh traditions with the realities of the contemporary world, historicism of culture, and mythological symbolism. He studied at the Almaty Art School and the Moscow State Art Institute and holds a professorship at the Kazakh National Academy of Arts named after T. Zhurgenov. Recent exhibitions include Heaven and Earth, Kasteev State Museum of Arts, Almaty, 2021; and Clouds, Power and Ornament – Roving Central Asia, CHAT (Centre for Heritage, Arts and Textile), Hong Kong, 2023. Bapanov lives and works in Almaty, Kazakhstan.
