Alice Nkom
Alice Nkom studied law at the University of Toulouse, graduating in 1968 with a degree in private law from the Federal University of Cameroon in Yaoundé. In 2003, she drew international attention when she set up the Association pour la Défense des Droits des Homosexuel(le)s ADEFHO, breaking the taboo surrounding homosexuality in Africa. Nkom also set up a dozen other organizations, including the Association Camerounaise des Femmes Juristes, Women Voters and Sons (WVAS), and Les Adolescents contre le Sida (SID'ADO). Since 2010, she has been a founding member and co-president of the board of directors of the Central African Human Rights Defenders Network (REDHAC). Nkom lives and works in Douala, Cameroun.
