​​Alina Simmelbauer is a photographer. Her conceptual documentary works mainly deal with questions of identity and belonging. She studied at the Burg Giebichenstein University of Art and Design in Halle and was a masterclass student at the Ostkreuzschule für Fotografie in Berlin. Her work has been shown in various exhibitions, including at the Kunstverein Dresden and the Museum der bildenden Künste Leipzig. The work Garcías Tochter was supported by the project funding of the Kulturstiftung Thüringen and was shortlisted for the 11th Kassel Dummy Award as well as the MACK First Book Award 2021. Simmelbauer lives and works in Berlin.
