Andrew Tshabangu

Andrew Tshabangu is a photographer. He works with social documentary modes and visual expressions akin to magic realism and surrealism owing to his smoky and blurry images. Tshabangu is interested in the subtlety and nuances of his subjects as well as daily movements, transactions, and metamorphoses of places. He is a founding member of Umhlabathi collective and he has facilitated photographic workshops in Kenya, Ethiopia, Cameroon, Mozambique, Réunion Islands, and Guyana, adding to taken up residencies in Réunion Islands, London, New York, and Nairobi. His work has been exhibited widely in Africa, Europe, the US, and Japan. Tshabangu lives and works in Johannesburg.
