Goutam Ghose is a film director and cinematographer. He graduated from Calcutta University and started making documentaries in 1973. He also took active part in the group theater movement in Calcutta and worked as a photojournalist. He has made several significant feature films and documentaries, including Hungry Autumn (1974), which won the main award at the Oberhausen Film Festival. Ghose has won several international awards, including the Golden Semurg for best film at Tashkent Festival, Golden Peacock as best film at IFFI Goa, UNESCO award at Venice Biennial, and UNESCO award at Festival de Cannes.
