Lester Ransfield was born in Aotearoa (New Zealand) and is a storyteller and contemporary Maori design artist. The art designs Ransfield creates draw upon the perspective he has grown up with: cultural production comes from  working with the legacy of his parent’s Maori origin. His artworks link individuals together as a whole, exploring his own perspectives of knowledge, emotions, passions, identity, and aspirations through them. His storytelling practice is focused on detailed stories and heritage within New Zealand, a key element in his work being that his great, great, great grandmother, Rere-ō-maki, signed the Treaty of Waitangi, a document that protects the Whanganui River.
