Mallica ‘Kapo’ Reynolds (1911, Byndloss, St. Catherine, Jamaica–1989, Kingston, Jamaica) was a self-taught artist whose career began in the 1930s. He was more known for his painting but he was also a sculptor. Along with Sidney McLaren and Brother Everald Brown, Kapo Reynolds led the group of artists referred to as the ‘Intuitives’, who tried to capture the spirit behind objects and situations on canvas or in wood. Kapo’s works have been exhibited widely both in Jamaica and abroad. He has held exhibitions in New York in 1953, 1969, and 1982; Los Angeles in 1964 and 1968; and in Washington, DC in 1972. His works form a part of the permanent collection of the National Gallery of Jamaica.
