Manishita Dass

Manishita Dass is reader in Film & Global Media at Royal Holloway, University of London. Her research explores the intersections of film, visual, literary, performance, and leftist political cultures in South Asia. Her publications include The Cloud-Capped Star (2020) and Outside the Lettered City: Cinema, Modernity, and the Public Sphere in Late Colonial India (2016). She is writing a book about the impact of left radicalism and internationalism on Indian film cultures of the 1940s–60s, and co-editing a volume on the cinemas of the Indian New Wave. Dass lives and works in London.
