Marcus Gammel is head of the radio drama department at Deutschlandfunk Kultur. He studied musicology, German studies, and philosophy in Berlin with guest stays in Paris and New York. From 1996–2011 he worked as a freelance music journalist and dramaturg. Since 2009 he has been in charge of the weekly programme Klangkunst. In 2017 he co-curated the radio programme Every Time A Ear di Soun by documenta 14 and Deutschlandfunk Kultur. Gammel lives and works in Berlin.
