Maria Madeira is a multi-disciplinary artist. Her art practice spans a wide range of media, from painting to sculpture, drawing, mixed media collage, and installation. Her work has been shown in over 30 exhibitions across Australia, Portugal, Brazil, Macau, United States, Indonesia, and Timor-Leste. Most recently, Madeira represented Timor-Leste at the Inaugural Pavilion at the 60th International Venice Biennale. It is her concern to convey Timor-Leste’s culture and traditions to other societies and vice-versa. It is her strong belief that art and culture are the spirit and soul of a nation. Madeira lives and works between Dili, Timor-Leste and Perth, Australia.
