Tsitsi Ella Jaji is a poet and scholar. She seeks to breach borders between creative and critical practice and she is an associate professor at Duke University and a senior research associate at Rhodes University in South Africa. Her most recent volume of poetry, Mother Tongues (2019), received the Cave Canem Northwestern University Press Prize, and she is also the author of Beating the Graves (2017) and the scholarly monograph Africa in Stereo: Music, Modernism and Pan-African Solidarity (2014). Her works have also been published in academic journals, literary magazines, and museum catalogues. Jaji lives and works in Durham, North Carolina.
