Yäniyä Mikhalina (she/her) is a Tatar artist and researcher working with the notion of documentary and the ways reality is produced, represented, and distorted in psychic and political realms. She is a PhD candidate and lecturer at the Trondheim Academy of Fine Art. Recent exhibitions include: Sisterless, Trondheim kunstmuseum, 2023; documenta fifteen, Kassel, 2022; and Moving Women, Smena Centre of Contemporary Culture, Kazan, 2022. Recent publications include: She Who Documents (2023); and The Struggle Starts with a Struggle of the Tongue: An Affective Dictionary of Tatar (with Joen Vedel, 2022). Mikhalina lives and works in Trondheim.
