Yoko Tawada
Yoko Tawada is a writer. She came to Hamburg from Tokyo in 1982 to study German and subsequently obtained a doctorate in Zurich. She writes in German and Japanese and has won numerous literary prizes, including the Akutagawa Prize, the Tanizaki Prize, the Kleist Prize, and the National Book Award for Translated Literature. Most recently, she published Eine Zungengymnastik für die Gender-Debatte (2023) and Paul Celan und der chinesische Engel (2020). Tawada lives and works in Berlin.
