Opensources is a project dedicated to exploring the intersection of ethics and aesthetics via experimental non-fiction cinema, interrogating what true cultural democracy looks like in film exhibition. It premiered at the Institute of Contemporary Art in London in April 2023. As part of Synergie: Phantasm & Protest, Opensources will present the short film HYPERFATE by Christelle Oyiri that questions the differences between notions of destiny and fate, followed by one of the most influential video-essays of the 1990s, Tthe Last Angel of History. Directed by John Akomfrah, a member of Black Audio Film Collective, the work is an exploration of the chromatic possibilities of digital video, embedded within a mythology of the future that creates connections between Black unpopular culture, outer space, and the limits of the human condition.
