Casa Kuà
Casa Kuà is a self-organized trans, inter, and queer community and health centre located in Kreuzberg, Berlin, primarily but not exclusively by and for BIPOC trans and genderqueer people, with the aim of overcoming knowledge production systems in health and medicine that are primarily conceived and designed for white cisgender male bodies. Casa Kuà challenges default physical reference systems which render everything and everyone outside these invisible norms as mere deviations. Casa Kuà is a space of (self)care and alternative knowledges, and is currently building the Lohana Berkins Library, which collects publications mainly by BIPOC authors and aims to disseminate and circulate knowledge that is often rendered marginalized. The library’s name honours travesti activist Lohana Berkins (1955–2016) and functions as a social space for physical, spiritual, and intellectual meet-ups. Within the context of Forgive Us Our Trespasses / Vergib uns unsere Schuld, the library is stationed between the Archive Souq bookshop and the HKW’s information counter in the Sylvia Wynter Foyer and is a focal point for discussions, screenings, readings, and community exchange throughout the duration of the exhibition.
