In the context of the exhibition Forgive us our Trespasses / Vergib uns unsere Schuld, visitors are invited to browse through a library installation by Casa Kuà.
Casa Kuà is a self-organized community and health centre for trans*, inter, and non-binary people, especially those affected by racism. The centre aims to offer medical treatment that goes beyond normative approaches primarily conceived for white cisgender male bodies. In bringing communities together, the initiative centres the needs and wishes of BIPoC (Black, Indigenous, and People of Colour) and trans* people, considering community and health as inseparable. Casa Kuà’s library is named after travesti activist Lohana Berkins (1955–2016), honouring her lasting legacy for the community.
The library installation is activated by TransGressive, a semi-monthly trans, queer, and gender non-conforming poetry night. Usually held at Ivallan's Books in Kreuzberg, TransGressive comes to HKW along with invited poets who trespass the boundaries of society by writing, organizing, and bringing people together.
