Released in 2017, the album Platz an der Sonne by BSMG was a masterpiece of Afropean-conscious hip-hop that, with its uncompromising style and post-colonial political awareness, has created a new self-image for the perspectives of Black socialisation in Germany. Platz an der Sonne unites questions around identity search, cultural heritage, diaspora, and home. BSMG thus addresses racism in Germany and its systemic origins and shows how the exploitative structures of colonialism still influence world events today.
The members of BSMG will share their views on these topics and the story behind the album at this workshop as part of the event Know the Past, Interpret the Present, Shape the Future. Hip-Hop—Black Culture in Germany. Together with Megaloh, Ghanaian Stallion, and Musa, participants can immerse themselves in the intricate, sometimes technically demanding process of songwriting. They will learn about the background and motivations for the overall project as well as the creation process of individual songs.
