Abdalla Khamis Abdalla aka Alai K is a producer, singer, and songwriter. During the2000s he was a voice of the Kenyan hip-Hop collective Ukoo Flaani Mau Mau and in 2015 released his debut solo album Disco Vumbi Vol. 1 connecting music he grew up with—such as benga, taarab, rumba, singeli, and chakacha—with his own vocals and beats. His project Disco Vumbi blends Arabic and African dance music traditions of the East African coast with electronic productions, making use of contemporary sound technologies in Berlin where he is currently based.
