Ulrike Ottinger is an artist and filmmaker. From 1962 to 1968 she lived in Paris, where she was trained in etching techniques at the studio of Johnny Friedlaender and attended lectures at the Sorbonne by Claude Lévi-Strauss, Louis Althusser and Pierre Bourdieu on art history, religious studies and ethnology. Her work has been part of many major art exhibitions. She has been awarded several prizes, including the Hannah Höch Award of the City of Berlin in 2011 for her outstanding artistic life’s work.
