D: Salif Traoré, MLI/F/CDN/D/OBV 2007, 96 min, OV with German subtitles
The myth of the river goddess and the patriarchal order on the Niger
As a child Zanga was driven out of his village on the Niger River, as an adult with a career as an engineer he returns in the hope of finding his father. His appearance upsets the community with its patriarchal structures: The inhabitants of the village fear the wrath of the river goddess Faro who supposedly preserves the traditional order in this living environment inseparably linked to the river. This results in a confrontation between the system of injustice with its mythical legitimation and individual life plans.
