MUTUALISMX: Becoming Sonic Networks

MUTUALISMX: Becoming Sonic Networks is a planetary-spanning collaborative generative AI music and visual album, at the heart of which lies SEMILLA.AI, a synthesizer developed by 𝔥𝔢𝔵𝔬𝔯𝔠𝔦𝔰𝔪𝔬𝔰. Based on ‘small data’ neural audio synthesis, the tool represents a confluence of technopoetics in generative computation, and new AI interfaces that move visitors towards aesthetics of the decolonial. Drawing inspiration from the Mesoamerican Mixe divination practice of Mook pajkwëjwë, or maize seed divination, SEMILLA.AI transforms the sonic identities of the performers, merging them into a collective soundscape. By blurring individual identities into a shared voice, MUTUALISMX advocates for borderless, creative futures with generative neural networks, while examining labour, AI biases, and new forms of generative sonic praxis. For this live iteration of MUTUALISMX, 𝔥𝔢𝔵𝔬𝔯𝔠𝔦𝔰𝔪𝔬𝔰 and collaborating sound artist and musician MAF perform using DIAD, a haptic self-built experimental electronic synthesizer and SEMILLA.AI.
