Kite explores notions of ‘Making Kin with the Machines’ (an eponymous writing project by the artist) through Lakota ontologies and Artificial Intelligence (AI) technologies. Her artistic exploration consists of building body interfaces and interrogating AI consciousness through the dreaming methodologies of her community. Dreams thus become central paradigms through which to understand consciousness as a relation, rather than something that emerges out of an object or brain. Focusing on using Indigenous research-creation methodologies such as body-centred acts of knowledge-making and dream to design methodologies, Kite explores these relations through artistic practice and computational media in a quest to find technological sovereignty for Indigenous populations.
The talk will be followed by a conversation with Sara Morais dos Santos Bruss.
