Carlos ‘Marilyn’ Monroy (they/them) is a non-binary Colombian immigrant in Brazil, independent artist, academic, and researcher. For over 20 years they have created multimedia installations and performances addressing our colonial history to catalyze processes of cultural emancipation and reparation from the violence of the structural powers. To do so, they propose the activation of carnival-like processions and other gatherings to perform celebratory restorative acts with symbolic and political means. Recent exhibitions include the solo show Schwäbische Amazonen, Wunderkammer, Stuttgart, 2023. Monroy lives and works between São Paulo, Bogotá, and Germany.
