As the theory of quantum mechanics approaches its 100th anniversary, the possibilities for its implementation remain uneven, not just in terms of technological infrastructure, but in its cultural concerns, possibilities for learning, and control over the way ideas are commercialized. What does it mean to translate a supposedly translocal equation into context? What are the risks of reiterating forms of data or digital colonialism within a quantum realm? And does the commercialization of ideas mean that its originators need to take responsibility for their inventions even as their creations take on a life of their own?
This exchange between physicists touches upon the cultural, historical, and future implementation of quantum science in pedagogy, commerce, and global exchange, and asks questions about the larger framework of global scientific exchange.
