How do myths continue to shape our understanding of history and identity? The discussion examines the power of myth-making as a form of collective memory, investigating how societies create and evolve narratives that preserve their histories and cultural distinctiveness. Elmi presents insights from his new book Two That I Miss: Hadraawi and Gaarriye, while Mouhtare discusses her book, The Fire Within. Both authors explore the blending of historical facts with symbolic meanings in storytelling, highlighting how myths continue to reflect and influence societal aspirations.
Furthermore, the event explores how myths serve as vehicles for transmitting knowledge and social norms across generations, and how the malleability of memory contributes to the evolution of historical accounts into meaningful narratives.
