With Rádio Floresta (Forest Radio) and Jess Oliveira
Forest Radio is a project born from the desire to listen to those who live along the river and provide them with the necessary infrastructure to amplify their voices and knowledge. Originally conceived as a means of communication for the local community, the project was organized together with the residents of Careiro Castanho (Amazonas, Brazil), a territory marked by historical disputes, both environmental and geopolitical, linked to forest reserves and the demarcation of Indigenous lands. In this sense, Forest Radio seeks to amplify the voice of local subjects and give them a leading role in a situation that disregards their existence with programmes on issues related to culture, the environment, and feminism. Intended to both entertain and inform, the project allows for a polyphony that translates and enunciates the needs and desires of local agents.
For the School of Quilombismo, Forest Radio created a special programme that comprises its beginning and a selection of excerpts of its several programmes like Banzeiro Cultural and Café com Tucumã. This special podcast, recorded in Portuguese, received an expanded and reflective commentary in English by Jess Oliveira, translator and poet.
