Lia de Itamaracá
Concert

Lia de Itamaracá is a prominent figure in Ciranda music and dance, emblematic of Pernambuco’s rich cultural legacy. Ciranda, a fusion of Christian and pagan elements, draws upon the oral tradition's storytelling prowess to bridge generations, emerging  as a powerful musical force. Lia’s immersion in the world of Ciranda began at a young age, where she honed her skills in dance circles. Her vocal prowess garnered attention, leading to the release of her inaugural album, A Rainha da Ciranda, in 1977. Despite acclaim from composers and scholars, financial struggles persisted, and she worked in a kitchen for three decades.

It wasn’t until 1998, when she graced the stage of the Abril Rock Festival, that her fortunes began to change. The success of her performance paved the way for her 2002 album, Eu Sou Lia, catapulting her to national acclaim and international tours. Her latest offering, Ciranda Sem Fim, produced by DJ Dolores, heralds a forward-looking celebration of Ciranda, embodying both the essence of its enduring past and the promise of the future.

Today, Lia remains a spirited advocate for resistance and enlightenment, with Ciranda serving as both her tool and essence.
